rev. 1.00 6 december 09, 2016 HT42B534-X usb interface the usb interface, being usb 2.0 full-speed compatible, i s a 4 -wire se rial b us t hat a llows communication between a host device and up to 127 max peripheral devices on the same bus. a token based protocol method is used by the host device for communication control. other advantages of the usb bus include live plugging and unplugging and dynamic device c onfiguration. as t he c omplexity of usb data protocol does not permit comprehensive usb operation information to be provided in this datasheet, the reader should therefore consult other external information for a detailed usb understanding. power planes there are two power planes for the device and they are the usb bus power input (vdd) and 3.3v regulator output (v33o). for the usb sie vdd will supply all circuits related to usb sie and be sourced from pin vdd. once the usb is removed from the usb and there is no power in the usb bus, the usb sie circuit is no longer operational. usb interface operation to communicate with an external usb host, the internal usb module has external pins known as d+ and d- along with the 3.3v regulator output v33o. a serial int erface engine (sie) decodes the incoming usb data stream and transfers it to the correct endpoint buf fer memory know n as the fifo . the usb module has 4 endpoints, ep0 ~ ep3. the endpoint 0 supports the control transfer while the endpoint 1 ~ endpoint 3 support the interrupt or bulk t ransfer. t he ht 42b534-x bri dge ic support s the usb c ommunication de vice c lass ( cdc) f or communications and confguration. endpoint transfer type 0 control 1 interrupt 2 bulk out 3 bulk in usb endpoint transfer type if there is no signal on the usb bus for over 3ms, the usb device will enter the suspend mode. the device enters the suspend state to meet the requirements of the usb suspe nd current spe cification. whe n t he resume signal is asserted by the usb host, the device will be woken up and leave the suspend mode. as t he usb de vice ha s a re mote wa ke-up fu nction, the usb device can wake up the usb host by sending a remote wake-up pulse. once the usb host receives a remote wake-up signal from the usb device, the host will send a resume signal to device. usb vid and pid confguration the de vice ha s c onfigured t he de fault v endor id (vid:0x04d9), product id (pid:0xb534) and product description st rings o f usb t o uar t b ridge. t he user c an upda te t he v endor id, produc t id, produc t description strings and remote wake-up setting using their application program. this device has been configured to the default usb confguration data as shown in the following table. parameter value (hex) usb vendor id (vid) 0x04d9 usb product id (pid) 0xb534 remote wake-up default disable manufacturer name holtek product description usb to uart bridge serial number 0000 uart interface the HT42B534-X contains an integrated full-duplex asynchronous serial communications uar t interface that e nables c ommunication wi th e xternal d evices that contain a serial interface. the uar t function has m any fe atures a nd c an t ransmit a nd re ceive da ta serially by transferring a frame of data with eight data bits pe r transmission as well as being abl e to de tect errors when the data is overwritten or incorrectly framed. t he uar t f unction p ossesses i ts o wn internal interrupt which can be used to indicate when a reception occurs or when a transmission terminates. the integrated uar t function contains the following features: ? full-duplex, asynchronous communication ? 8 bits character length ? even, odd or no parity options ? one or two stop bits ? baud rate generator with prescaler ? 128-byte deep fifo t ransmit data buffer ? 128-byte deep fifo receive data buffer ? rx pin wake-up function ? uart pins power supply by vddio pin
rev. 1.00 7 december 09, 2016 HT42B534-X uart external pin to communicate with an external serial interface, the internal uar t has two external pins known as tx a nd r x. t he t x a nd r x p ins a re t he uar t transmitter and receiver pins respectively. uart data transfer scheme the da ta wi ll be t ransferred t o t he t ransmit shi ft register from where it will be shifted out, lsb frst, onto the tx pin at a rate controlled by the baud rate g enerator. d ata to be received by the u art is accepted on the external rx pin, from where it is shifted in, lsb first, to the receiver shift register at a rate controlled by the baud rate generator . the uar t interface provides a 128 byte deep fifo transmit data buf fer and a 128 byte deep fifo receive data buffer for applications. for data trans fer, the u art function utilis es a non- return-to-zero, more commonly know n as nrz, format. this is composed of one start bit, eight data bits and one or two stop bits. parity is supported by the uar t hardware and can be setup to be even, odd or no parity . for the most common data format, 8 data bits a long wi th n o p arity a nd o ne st op b it, d enoted a s 8, n, 1, is used as the default setting, which is the setting at power-on. the following diagram shows the transmit and receive waveforms for an 8-bit data format. bit 0 8-bit data format bit 1 stop bit next start bit start bit parity bit bit 2 bit 3 bit 4 bit 5 bit 6 bit 7 baud rate generator to setup the speed of the serial data communication, the uar t funct ion c ontains i ts own de dicated ba ud rate generator . the default uar t baud rate is 9600bps and it can be controlled by the application program. the baud rate and miss rate table: baud rate real rate miss rate (%) 2400 2403.846154 0.16 4800 4807.692308 0.16 9600 9603.841537 0.04 19200 19207.68307 0.04 38400 38461.53846 0.16 57600 57692.30769 0.16 115200 115384.6154 0.16 230400 230769.2308 0.16 460800 457142.8571 0.79 1700000 1714285.714 0.84 2300000 2285714.286 0.62 3400000 3428571.429 0.84 uart power down and wake-up if the usb host sends a suspend signal to the HT42B534-X usb device, it will enter the suspend mode. it is recommended to ens ure that the uar t data t ransmission or re ception ha s bee n fi nished before the device enters the suspend mode. the uar t function contains a rece iver rx pin wake- up function. a falling edge on the rx pin will wake up the device from the suspend mode. application program demo holtek usb bridge program holtek provides an application program to setup the HT42B534-X bridge ic for usb to uar t data communication. the applic ation progra m ca rries the name holtek usb bridge program. the application program function contains two blocks, the frst block is for the customer vendor id, product id and product information upgrate, the second block is for the usb to uar t application settings. the usb to uar t setting block can be used to confgure the baud rate, data, stop bits, parity , fow control and data transmit/ receive demo. the main fgure for the program update is as follows:
